The popular online encyclopedia Wikipedia recently updated its website with a small but great new feature for iOS and macOS users. Wikipedia is finally accepting Apple Pay as a payment method on its website, making it easier for users to send donations to the non-profit organization.
The non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, which hosts Wikipedia's massive collection of user created and maintained articles, is largely supported by reader contributions. Anyone familiar with the website has seen or knows of the regular donation messages that pop up from time to time, asking users to give "the price of a cup of coffee" to keep its servers running.
When the user clicks on the Apple Pay icon, users are then asked how much they would like to donate and whether or not they would like to make it a monthly donation.
Once all of that is decided, users are taken to a page where they can click on the “Donate with Apple Pay” button where they can make their donation to Wikipedia.
Apple Card users that donate will be able to get 2% in Daily Cash on their donation.
It’s worth noting that the Apple Pay option is still being gradually rolled out to users worldwide, so you may not be able to find it right now, depending on your current location. For more information, check the donations page on the Wikipedia website.
In March, the Wikimedia Foundation was said to be in talks with big tech companies over the potential monetization of content pulled from Wikipedia and used on platforms like Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa.
